Terms of Service

Last updated October 19, 2026

Please read these terms before using AltruNova. They explain what the service is, what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you.

1. Acceptance of these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and AltruNova ("we", "us"). They govern your use of AltruNova's charity portal, donation pages, donation widgets and websites (the "service").

By using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the service on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these terms for it.

2. The service

AltruNova provides technology that lets nonprofits accept and manage donations and lets donors give to them. AltruNova is not a charity, does not solicit donations for itself, and is not a party to the gift between a donor and a nonprofit. Payments, identity verification and stock transfers are carried out by our payment, verification and brokerage partners.

3. Who may use the service

  • Nonprofits: must be organizations eligible to receive charitable donations, and must give accurate information when they register and verify.
  • Nonprofit staff: may use the portal only with an account their organization has authorized, and must complete identity verification.
  • Donors: must use a payment method, bank account, wallet or brokerage account they are authorized to use, and give accurate information about themselves.

4. Accounts and security

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details confidential and for activity under your account. Give accurate information and keep it up to date. Tell us at info@altrunova.com straight away if you believe your account has been used without your permission. A nonprofit is responsible for whom it invites to its account and for the roles it gives them.

5. Donations

  • Donations go to the nonprofit you choose. That nonprofit is responsible for how it uses the funds and for honoring any designation you select, such as a program or campaign.
  • Donations are generally final. Refund requests are decided by the nonprofit that received the gift; contact it, or us, if you believe a donation was made in error or without your authorization.
  • A recurring donation is charged at the frequency and for the duration you chose. To stop one early, contact the nonprofit or us.
  • Whether a donation is tax-deductible depends on the nonprofit's status and your own circumstances. Receipts record the gift; they are not tax advice.
  • The value of a donation of stock or cryptocurrency is determined as of the date it is received, and may differ from its value when you started the transfer.
  • Transfers can be delayed or declined by banks, card networks, brokerages or blockchain networks, or where we suspect fraud.

6. Payment, verification and brokerage partners

Parts of the service are provided by third parties: Stripe for card and bank payments and nonprofit payouts, Plaid for identity verification and account connections, and Apex Clearing for the brokerage account a stock donation is made through. When you use those features you may be asked to accept those providers' terms, and their terms govern their services.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the service to:

  • raise funds fraudulently or for an organization that is not eligible to receive donations;
  • launder money, finance unlawful activity, or break sanctions or other laws;
  • send unsolicited email, put content in donation receipts that is unrelated to the donation, or use invitations or other features to contact people who have not asked to hear from you;
  • access another organization's data, interfere with the service or its security, or use it to distribute malicious code; or
  • impersonate anyone or misrepresent your affiliation.

We may investigate suspected misuse and suspend access while we do.

8. Communications

By creating an account or donating, you agree that we may send you the transactional messages needed to provide the service: verification codes, password resets, team invitations, donation receipts and replies to your enquiries. We do not send marketing email. Our Email policy lists every message and explains how to stop receiving email.

9. Your content and our intellectual property

The service, including its software, design and content, belongs to AltruNova and its licensors. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use it in line with these terms.

A nonprofit keeps ownership of the logos, images and text it uploads, and gives us permission to display them in order to provide the service, including on its donation pages, widgets and receipts. The nonprofit is responsible for that content.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent allowed by law, AltruNova disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and does not promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, AltruNova is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. AltruNova is not responsible for how a nonprofit uses donations it receives. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the service at any time, and a nonprofit may ask us to close its account. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken, if required by law or our partners, or to protect the service or its users. Records we must keep, such as donation and receipt records, are kept as described in our Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and we will give account holders notice of material changes before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms.
